We love the open access we currently have to Cannock Chase. We appreciate the fact that the Forestry Commission work hard to manage the forest and to do it in an unobtrusive way.
The Chase is a resource for us all. Local schools use it for outdoor education, thousands of local people use it for recreation. We want all of this to continue.
The Government appear to have reversed their plans to sell off the Forestry Commission estates. There is a Government appointed panel looking into the future of our forests has reported and we are now considering their recommendations.
My name is Mark Davis. I was born and raised in Hednesford, and have recently moved back to live in the Chase, I still work in the town. When I saw the first reports of the plan for "substantial reform" of the Forestry Commission I was concerned about what it could mean. I set up a Facebook Group and within 10 days 200 people had joined it, we're now over 3,000. As the national campaign to Save Britain's Forests grew I was determined to make sure Cannock Chase stayed in public hands.
Although I am a member of the Labour Party this campaign is completely non-political. I just want to Save Cannock Chase.
Following the Government's apparent U-Turn we want to use the passion we've generated for the Chase to good ends.
